VIM VIGOR | former dancer with Johannes Wieland

body riot

the body is the source. it is steeped in experiences, histories, and ephemeral action. it is a powerhouse of all things interior and exterior. it lives in movement. body riot, led by vim vigor’s shannon gillen and rehearsal director katherine kiessling, is a workshop about wild movement, presence, and connection — both with your fellow movers and with parts of yourself rarely explored. each session opens with warm-ups designed to invite space into your form and connections through joint articulations, while igniting strength, endurance, and agility. this work prepares you for movement phrases that challenge your perception of space and momentum; expect sudden shifts in scale, direction, energy, and texture. true to vim’s work, you’ll traverse through expansive phrase work, fusing contemporary action with acrobatic floorwork and human behavior. we’ll uncover internal and external sources of power, merging explosive athleticism with intricate gestural and rhythmic layering. as the workshop unfolds, you’ll move into dynamic partnering, sharpening your ability to read another body in motion, sense shifting energies, and find precise moments to transfer weight, guide trajectories, and ride the flow of shared movement. together, we’ll construct a space where physical investigation becomes a living, breathing story — an embodiment of curiosity, fantasy, and transformation. expect to sweat through limits and discover the unexpected in yourself and your colleagues.

the description reflects an artist’s idea which was developed at the time it was submitted to b12. it may have changed by the time the workshop or the performance project is starting. please stay flexible. thank you!
